Maine Tax Power of Attorney (Form 2848-ME)

The Maine Tax Power of Attorney (Form 2848-ME) is a document that Maine Revenue Services makes available to any taxpayers who want to apply for a Power of Attorney for tax-related affairs. Once filed, the Representative the taxpayer has named will have the “full authority to receive confidential information and to perform any and all acts the taxpayers can perform” in connection to the matters they list in Section 4 of the form, “Authority of representative(s).” In regards to who may serve as the taxpayer’s Representative, Maine Revenue Services allows the Principal to select their own Representative, so long as they meet the criteria listed in Part II of the form.

Additional Considerations

Form 2848-ME was updated by Maine Revenue Services in May 2019. It is therefore imperative that only the most current version of the form is used for any new applications, as previous versions may not be considered valid.
